Eastern Connecticut Crisis Intervention Team Training

Graduates of the Eastern CT Crisis Intervention Team Training held from March 15-19, 2004 including officers from the Norwich, Putnam, Plainfield, Willimantic, Eastern CT State University, Groton City, New London and West Haven Police Departments. Civilian graduates included mental health professionals from the Southeastern Mental Health Authority Mobile Crisis Outreach Team, United Services Mobile Crisis Outreach Team, Natchaug Hospital and Reliance House and First Step, Inc.

Officers try to complete brain teasers and other tasks in their “day treatment” program while hearing voices.


Officers experience both auditory and visual “Virtual Hallucinations, ” a computerized virtual reality program developed by Janssen Pharmaceutica. The program enabled officers to experience the challenges faced by a person with auditory and visual hallucinations as he tries to ride a bus and tries to purchase his medications at the drug store.
