CABLE FacultyArt Kureczka, M.A.Art Kureczka retired from the Wethersfield Police Department in 2000. During his 20 years of service he received specialized training in Critical Incident Stress Management and Peer Support. Art was one of the first officers in the State of Connecticut trained as a peer helper. He was also a member of the department’s Special Response Team serving as a negotiator. Early in his career, he was involved in an armed confrontation with a robbery suspect in which he was wounded and used deadly force. As a result, he created a Critical Incident Stress Management / Post Shooting Trauma program to address the psychological survival of police personnel and has instructed at the various police academies and re-certification classes throughout the state. He has conducted over a 100 crisis interventions/critical incident stress debriefings (CISD) for public safety personnel and facilitated a support group for officers involved in shootings. Art has a Master’s Degree in Counseling and specializes in issues of anxiety, both personal and job related, including post-traumatic stress and has published several articles on police related stress. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Capital Community College in Hartford and also a faculty member in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain. |
