Dr. Xavier Amador |
Michael Woody is
currently President of the CIT International Organization.
He retired from the Akron Police Dept. (OH) in 2002 after 25
years of service. His last 4 years he was the Director of
Training for the Department. He graduated from the
University of Akron with a Bachelor of Arts in Education
Degree and was a secondary education school teacher before
becoming a police officer.
Mike is credited with
bringing the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program to Ohio
in 2000 and helping to spread it throughout the state and
nation.
In 2005 the First National CIT Conference was
held in Columbus, Ohio with nearly 700 persons attending.
Mike coordinated this historical event.
Mr. Woody has
consulted with The Bureau of Justice Assistance, The Council
of State Governments, the National Alliance on Mental
Illness, the GAINS Center and national and international law
enforcement agencies regarding CIT.

Dr. Amador’s expertise
has made him a regular contributor to the Today Show and a
featured guest on ABC Good Morning America, Prime Time Live,
CBS This Morning, NBC Nightly News, 60 Minutes, CNN,
Dateline, ABC’s World News Tonight, Fox News, New York
Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and many others.
During his 25 years as a psychologist, Dr. Amador has
been an international consultant to companies and government agencies. His forensic
cases include the Unabomber, PFC Lynndie England, Elizabeth
Smart Kidnapping, and Zacarias Moussaoui trials.
LEAP (Listen-Empathize-Agree-Partner) shows clinicians,
family members, and law enforcement how to quickly gain the
trust of someone who is angry or paranoid. It gives you the
tools you need to persuade someone in "denial" about mental
illness to accept treatment and services.
Dr. Amador
is a family member of a person with schizophrenia.
